The workshop “Eradication of African Swine Fever in Sardinia:I s it a feasible goal?”, was held in Cagliari, Sardinia in Italy on October 23th, 2013.
It was organized by Istituto Zooprofilattici della Sardenha and Istituto Zooprofillatico Sperimentale Dell’Umbria e Delle Marche, under the ASFORCE project.
The workshop aimed at gathering veterinarians from the Local Health Units of Sardinia, from the regional technical agencies and in general all the veterinarians involved with African swine fever issues in Sardinia, to review and discuss fundamental and practical aspects of the disease namely those related to its prevention, control and eradication. 150 participants attended this workshop that was characterized by a series of interesting reports (see program attached), followed by enthusiastic and challenging debates, testifying that African swine fever, carries beyond the fairly “static”, technical aspects of the topic, a halo of polemic in the world of veterinarians and pig farmers.
